Sometimes the best way to solve complex problems is to start by building something simple. With LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®, teams use bricks to piece together ideas, unlock new thinking, and see challenges from entirely different perspectives.

By bringing hands on creativity into the room, it encourages open conversation, shared understanding and fresh insights that traditional discussions often struggle to uncover.

HOW DOES LSP WORK?

LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® empowers participants to take ownership of their own learning. This method has proved best when trying to assist teams in their learning and development.

An LSP workshop can have as few as two participants but typically involves four to eight people, although we can accommodate larger groups. There's also no pressure to be creatively minded, the LEGO® bricks are used as a metaphor and the focus is not upon what the end product looks like but what the bricks represent. The basic values of our LSP workshops are:

UNLOCK INSIGHT WITH LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®

LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is about more than building with bricks, it’s about building understanding, ideas, and connections. By using LEGO as a metaphor, participants can bring complex thoughts to life, express perspectives that are often difficult to articulate, and explore challenges in a safe and engaging environment.

This hands on, minds on approach encourages full participation, sparks creativity, and helps teams uncover insights that might otherwise be missed. It allows everyone to contribute, share their unique viewpoint, and see how individual ideas fit into the bigger picture. Whether you’re exploring strategy, solving a problem, or improving communication, LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® creates a space where fresh thinking emerges naturally and learning happens in the moment.

WHY USE LSP FOR TEAM BUILDING

Don't professionals find it hard to engage with Lego?  A common concern that we hear when we talk about LEGO® is whether it is something that 'serious professionals' will struggle to get on board with. This is actually the main reason why we advocate for it! Play is proven to enhance neuroplasticity. The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method works because it gets everyone in flow - even the most serious of partners gets involved and sees the value!

LEGO SERIOUS PLAY FAQS

Q. What is a facilitator?

A.  A facilitator is more than just a master of ceremonies, a host, or a teacher. A facilitator is a person who helps to guide and manage a group or team. They help the group or team achieve its objectives by promoting effective communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. Facilitators create a supportive and inclusive environment.  They use various techniques and methods to encourage active participation, manage conflicts, and ensure that discussions stay focused and productive. Our facilitators are coaches, and so they are skilled in delivering what is needed in the role.

Q. What is the role of a LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® facilitator?

A.  The best LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® facilitators understand the methodology and the theory that sits behind it. They also understand facilitation. Our facilitators are all team coaches, so they understand group dynamics and how to ask questions that produce deep learning and insight.

LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is powerful. In the moment, the participants do not have sight of the work that has gone into designing the workshop. Every workshop is unique and designed to explore the specific challenge or insight that the LSP session is intended to cover.  The desired outcome is reached through the skillful asking of questions. Trained facilitators make this look easy.  However, enabling deep reflection is part of the reason why having a facilitator present is so important.

Q. What are the benefits of an external facilitator?

A. Having an external facilitator helps to enhance participation and psychological safety.  Being one step removed from the organisation means they can shine a light on things that the system itself might not be able to see.  The external is free from internal politics and biases. They will say it as they see it. This produces more opportunity to learn.
